Zindagi Trust is a non-governmental, non-profit organization that strives to improve the quality of education available to the average Pakistani. Our areas of work include reforming public schools, educating working children and lobbying the government to improve education policy.
Zindagi Trust’s vision is to give every child in Pakistan a chance at transforming his or her life through education. The organization strives to effect public school reform as opposed to creating alternative systems that will always struggle to reach the masses. For this reason, lobbying the government to effect recommendations learned from our school reform project into policy is a critical tenet of our work
Our flagship project of school reform is the SMB Fatima Jinnah Government School in Karachi , which has been transformed to a vibrant centre of learning through a combination of infrastructural development, administrative upheaval, academic reform and the introduction of extra-curricular activities and student development courses such as art, sports, chess, health and abuse awareness workshops, etc.
We envision this school as a model that we continuously present to the government to be adopted and replicated in public schools across the country. We have recently taken up the management of Khatoon-e-Pakistan Government Girls School in Karachi where we are demonstrating how to replicate this model.
We also run a non-formal education programme, called Paid to Learn, which provides primary education to working children from urban slums across Pakistan.
Zindagi Trust operates under the auspices of a Pakistan-based Board of Trustees. It was registered in April 2002 under the Trusts Act, 1882 in Pakistan. Contributions to Zindagi Trust exempted by Commissioner of Income Tax, Company Zone-V, Karachi under income tax ordinance, 2001, Section 2, sub section 36 (c). The trust is a PCP certified organization and has been awarded CSO certification. |
